No. 1 Amanda leaving Common Lane Engine Shed
Mr G arriving at Pinesway Junction
|Hopefully I'll try to keep you all a bit more
updated than in the past on the on-going changes at the GLR.
All change at the GLR in 2004
Visitors will notice a small change in the layout of the facilities in the station yard at Common Lane in 2004. The area where the Templecombe Railway Museum, Ticket Office, Shop and our mess room (we've had no tea all winter) is currently being re-developed into an all in one building to include the buffet, shop and ticket office. The main reason for the change was that we have out grown our current buffet. The museum will now live over where the buffet used to be. (photos coming soon)
Another change which will be noticed is that the old shop is now located over on platform 2 to form the NEW visitors centre. With an eventual canopy covering the majority of platform 2 (due some when in the near future). This along with non noticeable changes including a complete and on going re-wire of the Common Lane signal box and main cables, re-sleeping large parts of the track bed and general maintaince will give regular and new visitors a new experience on the GLR in 2004. Wee look forward to seeing you on Easter Monday.
Track renewal & removal
The track through Platform 2 of Common Lane is currently being upgraded to further improve the standards on the Gartell Light Railway. The old siding at Shortlands is currently being removed in our modernization of the main line from Pinesway Junction to Park Lane. These in conjunction with signal upgrades from the S & T department will provide even better service for the Traveler in 2003
EASTER MONDAY 2001 OPEN DAY WAS THE BEST IN THE GARTELL LIGHT RAILWAYS HISTORY. THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF PASSENGER'S TRAVELED ON A SINGLE OPEN DAY (over 1000). WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU ALL FOR COMING.
